There is definitely a sense that the identity politics surrounding this campaign are a charade, and we can't talk about the common denominator that is the issue of class consciousness. Stating the obvious has become taboo. Thanks for this, it was very needed!

Yes, we really need to move away from talking about identity without acknowledging class. It flattens the complexities of how our experiences impact or are impacted by others.

I couldn't agree more, beautifully written and expressed.

I’ve said before (and I’ll keep saying it), without a POC P.A.C we will never have a way to hold elected officials accountable. They answer to power and money. Until we can pay them more to do the right thing than the lobbies that currently benefit from the status quo, we are just voting into the void

Phenomenal piece

THANK YOU! It’s actually so sad that we can easily raise hundreds of millions for a candidate but not a PAC.

How much power do the elected have?

Federal Register Act

2/3 budget is non discretionary.

Of the 1/3 that is discretionary, treaty obligations to 68 nations, 69 Israel, above all NATO requires a military. The military takes 15% of the Federal budget, in truth given the obligations by treaty it’s a pittance. We can go on, the point being there’s little these politicians CAN do legally.

They can’t for instance fire anyone who isn’t a political appointee. <<

And there’s 537 of them in DC with 3 million bureaucrats and 3~6 million contractors.

A Stalin with 536 Beria’s would have difficulty managing that, never mind the hapless Reality TV types we’ve been electing for decades.

You’re all looking at a TV show, ignoring they are mere puppets, for the most part. The POTUS can nod yea or nay to war and Draconian orders. The Congress can fiddle with 1/3 of the budget, but treaty obligations will take a $800B military budget, just to maintain what exists.

The Transformative change happened, it was called The New Deal.

You’re looking at it.

I agree that the power is much more limited in scope than people believe. I also think that a lot can be done with the few powers they do have. There are choices 45 made in office that have drastically caused us to backslide. Hell, we’re even still feeling the impacts of the Reagan administration. The New Deal was transformative for its time and helped prevent another catastrophic collapse but we’re due for a new New Deal because late-stage capitalism is hitting different.

LaChelle, I appreciate you and agree with you. Kamala is part of the system. The system is corrupt and unjust, founded on genocide and enslavement. When I try to express my opinions about this country, I sound like a sputtering idiot, because I've been hearing the same empty pointless promises about change. I don't believe in incremental changes to a corrupt racist greed infused...there I go again. Sputtering idiot. Thank you LaChelle for expressing this in the intelligent, coherent manner that I'm no longer capable of.

So glad this resonated with you! I totally relate to struggling to express how I feel. Honestly, I never know I feel until I write it out. Appreciate you giving this a read.
